Matt Alexander is the Chief Legal Officer of Sweetgreen and oversees the company’s legal and governance functions. Matt has over 25 years of relevant legal experience, with a focus on building and leading highly effective legal teams for both public and private companies.
Prior to joining Sweetgreen, Matt served as General Counsel of Apeel Sciences, a mission-driven food-system technology company recognized as one of Time magazine’s 50 Genius Companies and one of CNBC’s 50 Disruptor Companies. Before that, he was General Counsel of Ixia, a public networking technology company that was acquired by Keysight Technologies. Matt served as the lead attorney for Ixia in that transaction. He was also General Counsel of DataDirect Networks, a high-growth data storage and management company. At each of these companies, Matt built a global state-of-the-art legal function from the ground up. Matt began his career as an attorney at Irell & Manella LLP, where he was a member of the corporate and IP transactional workgroups.
Matt received his Juris Doctorate from Stanford Law School, where he graduated Order of the Coif.
He lives in Thousand Oaks, California, with his wife, Megan, and has three grown children and two dogs.
